What Is a Lease Deed?
A legal contract between a property owner (lessor) and a tenant (lessee) granting the right to use and occupy a property for a specified period in exchange for rent. Unlike a sale deed, it does not transfer ownership. Under the Registration Act, 1908, a lease of immovable property for more than one year generally must be registered — a residential lease of 11 months generally does not require registration, though parties may register voluntarily.
Documents Required
- Identity/address proof of lessor and lessee
- Original title deed or sale deed, latest property tax receipts
